Guruvakyam in sanskrit means "the word of a guru or spiritual master." The syllable GU means darkness, RU means light. Thus, the GURU is one who leads from the darkness of ignorance to the LIGHT, has complete knowledge, and all the necessary qualities and powers. The GURU is always full of compassion for all people.
